On October 11, 2021, Thomas completed one of the most prestigious marathons in the world (and coincidentally, his hometown marathon), the Boston Marathon.
Thomas previously completed the marathon, 3 separate times. Once before his first accident in 2008, first time walking in 2018, and in 2019.
To prepare for the marathon Thomas trained for 5 months using a combination of cycling and walking. He participated with his two cousins Andrew McHugh and Sydney Godett and together they raised $38,160 dollars to be donated to Journey Forward in support of their aggressive rehabilitation for those battling back from Paralysis.
When we spoke with Thomas about what it takes to participate he said, “it’s a grueling event but when I’m tired and in pain I think about how those people we’re helping and it gives me the motivation to continue.”
