MW Fund merges with TESF to scale impact
Over the past eight years, the MW Fund has become a valuable resource for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI), providing over $450,000 in grants to 42 individuals and supporting SCI research participation. Their reach has expanded to specialized rehabilitation facilities across the U.S.
We are excited to announce, that as of January 1, 2025 the MW Fund has become part of the Thomas E. Smith Foundation (TESF). This merger will expand our organization’s reach and scale, creating a unique opportunity to make a greater impact for those affected by paralysis.
With over 25 years of combined lived experience, TESF president and co-founder Thomas Smith and MW Fund founder Matt Wetherbee envision an expansion that will fuel our vision of becoming a nationally recognized hub for SCI care–improving access to essential equipment and therapy, addressing systemic barriers and making quality care the norm, not the exception.
Our united team will bring this enhanced capacity to serve more individuals and families. This will allow us to increase the evidence base to improve outcomes for people living with paralysis, while also enabling us to champion efforts that will elevate the standard of care. Matt will be taking a role as a TESF Board Member, and MW Fund’s Executive Director, Jenna Labbee, has been appointed TESF’s Senior Engagement Officer.
Together, we will continue our shared mission to support individuals living with paralysis. We are, stronger together.
