The Thomas E. Smith Foundation has recently provided a $10,000 grant to local hockey player, and Senior at Milton Academy, 18-year-old Jake Thibeault.
On Sept. 4, 2021, while playing with his club team, the 18-and-under Boston Bulldogs, Jake hit the boards and became paralyzed from the waist down.
Within 48 hours after his accident, the TESF spoke with the Thibeault family and assisted them in developing their short and long-term healthcare support programs, as well as the full redesign of their home.
After their meeting, Tom said, “I saw a lot of myself in Jake. We were both in our primes and preparing to play at the next level when we got hurt. That level of athleticism requires a highly focused work ethic and I really admire how Jake has transferred that work ethic to his new fight against paralysis.”
